A good news story comes to us from Miami, Florida. During Tammy Gonzalez’s pregnancy, an ultrasound revealed that a tumour was growing on her unborn child’s mouth. The condition meant that the child’s survival was unlikely. If she survived birth, a tracheotomy would be required immediately to help her breathe and numerous surgeries would follow.
Surgery was performed while the baby was still in the womb during the seventeenth week of pregnancy. Doctors successfully removed the tumour from the baby’s mouth while the mother was awake and under local anesthesia.
On October 1, 2010, Tammy Gonzalez gave birth to her daughter Leyna who weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce. Leyna is healthy and has only a small scar on her mouth from the tumour and surgery.
Denise Hunnell, M.D. wrote for LifeNews.com in July 2012 : “I am told that Leyna means Little heavenly messenger or Little Angel. What an appropriate name for a little girl whose life sends the message loud and clear: Every life is precious.”
